Generators are one of the types of Items you can craft which creates power.
Crafted from the backpack (Organic Generator)

A generator consuming a stack of Organic (left).
Right from the start of the game, you can craft a small generator in your backpack's printer, using one copper.
You can place it in any one slot.
This generator consumes stacks of organic and produces power at a rate of 1 unit/sec or 4 sec/bar for 40 seconds, so 1 stack of Organic will fill 10 bars.
It will continue to generate power until depleting resources and will therefor waste all overproduction if there is no free capacity in available batteries.

The "Coal" generator
Once researched, you can craft a bigger generator in the printer module, using two copper.
You can place it in any two adjacent slots.
This generator consume stacks of coal and produces power at a rate of 2 units/sec or 2 secs/bar for 100 seconds, so 1 stack of Coal will fill 50 bars.
It will continue to generate power until depleting resources and will therefor waste all overproduction if there is no free capacity in available batteries.
