Desolo is a Terran Moon Planet in Astroneer and is the moon of Sylva. It has no atmosphere, and is pockmarked with craters and bare rocks scattered around the surface. Several of the craters are filled with grassy plants, which offer a good source of Organic. With its primary resource being Wolframite and due to its proximity to Sylva, Desolo should be the second stop on the player's adventure. The Tungsten derived from the ubiquitous Wolframite allows players to craft Medium Generators and the Chemistry Lab. The former makes the player's power management more independent from winds and the day/night cycle. The latter allows for production of basic composite materials, which are essential ingredients for more sophisticated crafting recipes.

Players will also find many Research Items and Debris scattered along the surface that can have valuable materials.

Desolo has an extraordinarily short day/night cycle, with each cycle lasting about 1 minute and 55 seconds.

Many steam geysers, Daggeroots, and few Popcoral can be found on the surface.

Notable Resources Location
Wolframite Cave Layer
Sphalerite Gray Plains and Mantle Layer

Desolo has no gases due to the lack of a proper atmosphere.

Gateway Network[edit | edit source]

AstroWiki Warning.svg Spoiler Warning: Information below contains information that may ruin your enjoyment of discovering the game's secrets for yourself. Proceed at your own risk.

Desolo has two Gateway Chambers, each requiring 8U/s of power for 30 seconds to be activated. At least one must be activated before the player can access the Gateway Engine in the core of the planet.

Once a Gateway Chamber has been activated, the Gateway Engine opens in the core. Placing a single Zinc in one of the slots reveals the Geometric Triptych. Placing the Geometric Triptych in the slot on the opposite side (above you) will activate the engine, revealing the Odd Stone and allowing teleportation to the core as well as revealing the inactive node for the Gateway Portal if it has not yet been discovered.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Desolo is almost tidally-locked to Sylva. There is a slight mismatch between Desolo's rotational and orbital periods, such that, seen from Desolo, Sylva slowly moves around the moon.
  • Desolo orbits Sylva extremely slowly, which is at odds with the small distance between the moon and the planet. At that low orbital speed, Desolo should fall down onto Sylva.
  • The fact that Desolo's orbital period is much longer than either a year or sidereal day on Sylva means that on Sylva, one month is roughly only a sixth of a day. In addition, in the real world, Desolo would be subject to extreme tidal acceleration.
  • Desolo has little to no atmosphere, resulting in sparse plant life and low wind. The Atmospheric Condenser cannot extract gases on Desolo because what atmosphere there may be is too thin for it to function.
  • Given that Desolo (as all celestial bodies) orbits in the same plane and that the planets are both too close to one another and to large relative to the Sun, eclipses are a frequent phenomenon. In particular, each new moon on Sylva is a solar eclipse, each full moon, a lunar eclipse.
