Generators are one of the types of Items you can craft which create Power, usually by burning some form of solid fuel, like Organic or Carbon.
Small Generator
The Small Generator consumes stacks of Organic to produce 2U/s of Power.
This generator is unlocked by default, or during the tutorial, if it is not skipped. You can place it in any single slot.
It will continue to generate power until the full stack of fuel is consumed unless it is toggled off, regardless of available Battery space or lack thereof. While turned on, it will pull Organic stacks from adjacent slots if it is attached to something with multiple slots.
QT-RTG
The 
QT-RTG is a small version of the RTG, allowing players to use them on their backpacks for 1U/s of Power while exploring away from their bases.
Medium Generator
The Medium Generator consumes stacks of Carbon to produce 9U/s of Power.
Once researched, you can craft the Medium Generator at the Small Printer for 1 Aluminum and 1 Tungsten. You can place it on any two adjacent slots.
It will continue to generate until the entire stack of fuel is consumed, and will waste any energy that isn't stored in a battery if you do not toggle it off. It will pull Carbon from adjacent slots if possible.
RTG
The RTG, or Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator, generates 4U/s of Power without consuming any fuel. Once crafted, it will generate this power indefinitely. It is a larger version of the QT-RTG.
A low-power version comes pre-installed in the Shelter. However, these cannot be removed.
